Common Questions about Asset Management

Summary

Assets are one of four key Elements in the ShowMgr system. This article lists some of the common questions around Assets and provides links to some other useful articles in our Help Center. If you can't find an answer to your question, just contact us and we'll do our best to help!

What does ShowMgr consider an Asset?

Each Asset is represented as a singular entity across the ShowMgr platform. That asset entity can represent a single use or a multitude of uses.  The scheduling/booking combined with the actualization of the time consumed or allotted with or on the asset entity provides the metadata necessary to facilitate billing.

Can I associate an Asset directly with a Resource?
Unfortunately there is no direct link between Assets and Resources. While it is a functionality ShowMgr is investigating for the future, at this stage, the most utilized option is to create a Package that contains the Resource and the Asset. In this case, you can book the Package on a new Order so it will include the Resource and the Asset. You can also add Associated Assets to a Resource's profile in the Resource Management section of ShowMgr, however it is not a hard link and will not cascade through the system.
What is an Asset association?
The Asset association feature is a way of showing that an Asset is associated with another Element. You can find it in the Asset Profile under the Association tab. Asset association is only for reference, and does not affect assigning/booking.
Can I check out multiple Assets at the same time?
Yes, absolutely!
Is it possible to link a software license with a specific asset? Or link any two assets?
In the case you want to bind a software license with a specific asset (e.g. CPU 505 always has an Avid License XXX on it). While both are technically individual assets that could be used separately, you might want to always book them and track them together. You would want to make a Package to tie the Assets together (especially if you are tracking the cost of using the Asset based on the length and type of Booking).
